The RGIB Case, in EDEM’s “Successful Management of Family Businesses” Program
EDEM, the business training centre located in La Marina de València, is already a reference in the Valencian Community and the rest of Spain in terms of training and entrepreneurship. One of its innovative programs is Successful Management of Family Businesses and at this forum the CEO of RGIB will present the success story of the company.
The objective of this cycle is to provide members of the family businesses and the governing bodies of those businesses with the knowledge, techniques and skills necessary to fulfil their responsibilities. The program addresses the specific characteristics of the family business and those more specific aspects such as communication, conflict resolution, family protocol, succession and partnership agreements and family leadership. Issues such as quality control, financial information and relevant aspects of taxation in the family business are the keys to this program but also the governance systems such as the family council, the shareholders’ meetings and the board of directors, including the duties, responsibilities and profiles of the members of each of them.
According to Raúl Royo, EDEM professor and speaker on this program, “business people are entrepreneurs, with brilliant ideas that drive their teams to put those ideas into practice and contribute to the success of the project. But sometimes we forget that this business is associated with a family, directly or indirectly, and its future generations, and the day-to-day does not allow us to dedicate time to these intangibles, the management of the family and its collateral effects.
The EDEM program and the RGIB case to be presented by Raúl Royo aims to contribute to good practices among family businesses, who in addition to successfully managing their companies, manage to take care of their family environment and achieve the necessary involvement to expand their success and not be affected by the risk of decline in the generational handover. “From ROYO (RGIB) we offer our pearls of wisdom after 47 years of business history and with the second generation already as shareholders and directing this second stage of our family history, and putting the pillars in place for the future entry of the third generation that very soon will arrive” adds Raúl Royo.
